This invention is to improve the critical mass flow of paper over the former board and its nose by retrofitting steep angle former boards in place of shallow angle boards.  Mathematically it can be calculated that increasing a formers angle will reduce the section resistance force.  Since each web is producing less force on the former board, the quantity of webs can easily be increased.  The steep angle board and nose retrofit arrangement is suitable for all newspaper and commercial folders.  In addition, it is intended to replace existing steep angle former boards of an inferior design.  This arrangement will allow running larger sections and improve the run ability of smaller sections by reducing wrinkles and tears.  The roller-top-of-former (RTF) and associated components will be repositioned on new spacer frames.  The RTF will be driven by a separate motor (shaftless) or by extending the existing drive line.  Slitters, trolleys, cross-braces, roller, brackets and other usable components will be relocated on the new spacer frames.  This steep angle retrofit package is suitable for installing on single width, double width newspaper or commercial folders that are arranged with one, two or three high formers.
